Tasks
From Talk to Action
Tasks are the action layer of Ripple, the bridge between “deciding” and “doing,” giving you a clear visual system to manage personal to-dos and team projects in one place. Tasks connect people, meetings, and purpose, keeping your team aligned without the extra admin.
How it works:
Think of tasks in Ripple as “smart actions.” They aren’t just isolated to-dos; they are directly tethered to the conversations that spawned them.
-
Context-First: Clicking on a task lets you see the original Call transcript or Jam discussion where it was created, so you never have to ask “what was this for again?” Tasks can also be linked by relationship, allowing you to keep track of context across Channels and Jams.
-
Action-Oriented: Tasks move work forward. They can be assigned, given deadlines, and tracked on boards, ensuring that decisions made in meetings actually turn into results.
-
Flexible: Whether generated by AI or created on the fly, every task feeds into a central system that gives you visibility over your entire workload.
Inside a Task:
| Feature | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Task Name | The headline of the action item. Keep it punchy and clear so everyone knows the goal at a glance. |
| Task Location | Which task list or board the task is currency assigned to (the default is ‘Inbox’) |
| Status | The current stage of the work (e.g., Backlog, In Progress, Done). This updates the board view automatically. |
| Reporter | The person (or the AI) who created the task. This is your point of contact if the brief isn’t clear. |
| Assignee | The owner of the task. This ensures there is always one person responsible for delivery. |
| Tags | Custom labels (like “Bug”, “Design”, or “Q1”) that help you group related work and filter your views later. |
| Due Date | The deadline. Setting this helps the team prioritise their workload and keeps projects on track. |
| Priority | A visual flag to signal urgency, ranging from Minor (⏬) to Urgent (🔺), so the team knows what to tackle first. |
| Relationships | Connecting the dots. This links the task to the Jam or Call where it originated, or to other tasks that are blocking progress. |
| Description | The full briefing. Use this space to add detailed instructions, context, or success criteria. |
| Uploaded Files | The context kit. Attach relevant documents, images, or even a video brief directly to the task so the assignee has everything they need. |
| Discussion | A dedicated chat thread for this specific task. Use it for updates or questions so you don’t clutter the main Channel feed. |
Creating Tasks:
You have a few ways to get work into the system, depending on where you are and how fast you need to move.
The Manual Way
Sometimes you just need to get a job logged yourself. Here are the three ways to do it:
A) The Global Quick-Create
Best for: When you have a brainwave while working on something else
-
Hover over the central Ripple icon on your sidebar.
-
Select Task from the pop-up menu.
-
Since you’re creating this from “nowhere,” make sure to add relationships to the task to provide context.
B) The Channel Tasks Tab
Best for: Planning out a specific project
-
Navigate to your chosen Channel (e.g., ‘Marketing’)
-
Click the Tasks tab at the top of the page.
-
Hit + New Task.
Benefit: These tasks are automatically linked to this Channel, keeping your project board tidy.
C) The “New Task” Button
Best for: Ad-hoc entry
- Simply click + New Task from any view where you see the button.
Via Ripple’s Smart Automation
The smartest way to work is letting Ripple do the heavy lifting. Instead of relying on your memory or scribbled notes, Ripple’s AI automatically identifies and creates action items for you.
-
From Jams: After a Jam, Ripple generates a Summary & Next Steps overview where tasks are automatically created.
-
From Calls: The moment a call ends, the AI Minutes feature extracts key decisions and next steps, syncing them automatically to the relevant project board.
Why do this? Teams that utilize AI task generation capture 3x more actionable items than those who rely on manual note-taking.
[!TIP] Tool Tip: 💡 Never wonder “what was this for?” again. Use the Relationships field to link a task back to the original Jam or Call, giving you instant context with a single click.
Quick Start:
Don’t let good ideas get lost. Tick these off to start getting things done:
-
Hit + New Task (or use the Global Quick-Create) to get the job out of your head.
-
Select an Assignee immediately (even if it’s just yourself), so there’s no ambiguity.
-
Set a Due Date. A task without a deadline is just a wish.
-
Set Priority: Flag it as Urgent 🔺 or Minor ⏬ to help the team focus on what matters.
